Growing Potatoes In Containers

Published by Mike on February 14, 2016

Making a Simple Growing Container for Potatoes

Sometimes you may not have room to grow everything in the space you have or maybe you just don’t want to do the digging it takes to grow potatoes in the ground. Growing in containers offers as easy way to grow some of your own food without having a garden space that has rich soil. In these four videos I will show you how to grow Potatoes in containers. I started my potatoes in late February and harvested in early July . The best time for growing potatoes in my zone 7B is February through June because we have to grow potatoes before the hot summer weather sets in  here in Georgia. These are 4 videos that were made in 2013, start to finish of the same potato container.

Planting Potatoes Using Fertilizer and Compost

The second Video shows how I planted the potatoes using Espoma fertilizer and compost. Later in the process I will cover the potatoes with organic potting soil.

Cover Potato Vines with Organic Soil as They Grow

In the third video I show how to cover the potato vines as they grow.

Harvest Nutrient Dense Organic Potatoes

The fourth video is where I harvest the potatoes. As you will see the tops of the vines are dying at this point. That means that the potatoes are not going to produce any more potatoes and are ready to harvest.

This video was made during our Down To Earth Organic club meeting.

I hope these videos are helpful in showing you how to grow potatoes in containers.
